" On arrival in Egypt, the visionary aspects of the desert landscape took hold of me spontaneously, and I realised I wanted to create works that engaged with the idea of the 'Holy Fool'—a mystic figure who traverses the landscape in ways that may appear absurd or irrational, but whose actions are in fact deeply intentional and symbolically charged.”
Gareth McConnell (b. 1972, N Ireland) is an artist and publisher living in London. He is founder and editor-in-chief of Sorika (est. 2013) an ongoing collaborative publishing project and print sales company. His work has been featured and written about in internationally recognised art and news publications such as Aperture, Frieze, Granta, The Guardian and The New York Times and has been included in major survey art shows.
